This picture was taken from the Rialto Bridge, Venice, just as the sun was rising over the buildings behind me. The city was just beginning to wake up and the first vaporetti (water buses) were starting to run, so I knew it was my last chance for a tranquil shot of the Grand Canal. It was my last morning in Venice, and I hadn’t gotten to take much in the way of photos there, so I set out at 4:45am to try to get some shots without crowds; I was leaving for Rome in just a few hours. Venice must certainly be one of the most unique and intriguing cities in the world. It is an unreal place – literally like a dream.
