This may come as a bit of a surprise, but I sold the camera I loved so much, my Canon 5D Mark II, along with my 24-70L lens. I did it mostly because the 5D Mark III should be coming out in the near future, and the value of the MKII is going to drop quite a bit as a result. I also did it because I’ve been considering moving over to a Sony DSLR, mostly for their “semi-transparent mirror” tech and the accompanying auto-focus during video, along with the other benefits of having a non-moving mirror. The jury’s still out on that decision. So given the combination of those two considerations, I sold the camera. But, unable to be without a camera for some unknown period of time, I bought a used Canon T2i as a fill-in body for the time being.
The T2i is really pretty great. It’s not 5dM2 great, but then it costs about 25% as much. But for 25% the cost? It’s an amazing camera. It’s been so many years since I’ve used a crop sensor, I find I really need to adjust my expectations when I’m only carrying prime lenses with me. My first time out to shoot something with the new camera I brought only the 24L and the 135L not thinking, and I ended up having to move like a mile back from what I was shooting just to get it in the frame. It’s gonna take a little adjusting…I may have sold that 24-70L a bit too soon….
